Due to the heat of yesterday the plan was to hang out in the shaded forest for most of the day. I could not believe how many options there were to climb. It was endless and still not crowded. We headed up to some highball problems in the woods. Due to the hard shadows thrown by the trees and the light poking through, I needed to get out my flashes once again to give a bit more of an even exposure. I have now probably shot about 600+ frames with the Alien Bee’s and my home built battery packs and they are still going strong and without a charge thus far. They would likely need one by days end.
Later on we walked deeper into the woods to climb a very photogenic and overhanging V9 in the mid-day heat. A larger crowd assembled giving high energy and enthusiasm. By the time the sun was at it’s hottest we decided to go and partake in the Bavarian festivities in Leavenworth’s Maifest. Beers, brats, lederhosen, dancing, and a Maipole, what more could one Bavarian tourist want?
After we got our fill we headed back out. The sun went over the ridge so we tried to get a few dramatic lighting shots on a difficult V12 that Art has been projecting for the last few weeks. Some great dark clouds moved in, burnt trees loomed in the background and some high contrast flash exposures produced a dark haunting aura in the photographs.
