Christian Pondella - A Week in the Life - Day 1

April 22nd

In our latest installment of A Week in the Life, F-Stop Staff Photographer Christian Pondella takes us on week long trip into the Alps of Chamonix, France.

CHAMONIX, FRANCE

I was scheduled to come to Chamonix, France to do an Oakley photo shoot. Unfortunately one of the athletes hurt their knee and the phootshoot got canceled. Fortunately for me my plane ticket was non refundable. So the trip turned into more of a personal/working assignment then just a pure work trip, which is perfect for a place like Chamonix.

Chamonix is one of my favorite places to ski and shoot, but it is best to ski with minimal camera gear, since the runs are VERY long, and can be pretty technical. Plus often times we are climbing what we ski, so having your full array of lenses would really complicate things.

Upon my arrival in Chamonix it had not snowed in about a week so conditions were not ideal for shooting, but weather is forecasted in the future.

The warm sunny conditions were perfect to head up the Aiguille du Midi, and ski the famous Vallee Blanche. This is one of the most beautiful ski runs in the entire world! When skiing the Valle Blance you have amazing views of the giant Mont Blanc, which is right above you, and you can see across the Alps to the Matterhorn.

For this day I used my Canon 5D Mark II, 16-35, and 24-105. For traveling light, those two lenses and the 5D body is a pretty good bang for your buck.

Below are a variety of photos from our day in the Valle
