Richard is a published and award-winning photographer based in Cornwall, England and has spent 22 years in the UK Military as a Survival Specialist. Now having left the military and with a recent move, he currently lives in Ontario, Canada where his photography journey will take him all over the Great White North, exploring the amazing nature the country has to offer. He likes to adapt his skills as a pathfinder to allow him to track, stalk and photograph wildlife in all environments.
Richard has been photographing for over 35 years and has now worked as a full time wildlife & nature photographer for the past 7 years. He travels around the United Kingdom and beyond in search of new subjects and is currently working on a number of conservation projects. He focuses on capturing images of nature in their natural environment, his belief is the welfare of the subject in Wildlife photography must come first above any image.
His award-winning images have been widely published in magazines, calendars, books and posters for clients such as BBC Wildlife magazine, Ministry of Defence, Leven media group, Scottish birds Britannica, and the National Trust for Scotland. Richard has worked with various media channels and has appeared and presented wildlife photography films for the BBC Natural history unit, such as BBC Springwatch & BBC Countryfile also being interviewed on BBC radio.
He works under licence on endangered birds of prey for the British Trust for Ornithology and Natural England. He is a qualified member of the Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers (SINWP) and a UK & Canada Ambassador for Nature First the Alliance for Nature Photography.
Richard’s been a finalist in the British Photography Awards (BPA), Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPOTY), Bird Photographer of the Year (BPOTY) and Nature TTL’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year, and the Scottish Nature Photography Awards (SNPA). He recently won the League Against Cruel Sports Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
Richard also runs photography workshops in the UK and in Canada helping students expand their photographic knowledge, fieldcraft and above all their ethical approach to being a responsible wildlife photographer. Richard has a passionate approach to the natural world and has made it his goal to make a difference to conservation through imagery.
