Helen is a family photographer based in London in the UK. Her work focuses on natural moments for the families she works with, taking pictures in their homes or at places that are important to them, local parks, woods and beaches. All of Helen’s work is in black and white as she feels the timeless nature of the medium is important to preserve the memories for the children in the pictures – the focus should be on the relationships between the people in the pictures, not the colour of their clothes.
A love of the great outdoors means that landscape and environment play a big part in Helen’s photography and she is always looking for a new angle or approach in a genre that can be filled with clichés. Allowing children the freedom to play brings a lightness and joy to her pictures which are filled with the characters of the children she works with. Embracing the unexpected and the chaos that comes with working with children, Helen believes that photographing young people is the most fun you can have with a camera and is definitely the best possible way to earn a living.
Helen’s work has appeared in magazines all over the world and she has taught her fellow photographers at The Photography Show, Photokina and the Apple Store in London. She became a Canon Ambassador in 2017.
